The Story of Iriisii Dovahkiin - Book Two Chapter Two

The Story of Iriisii Dovahkiin - Book Two

                                                                Chapter Two

The scene fades and quickly resumes, but this time Rigmor is shocked at how everything looks so much different than after the battle. Wondering how much time has gone by. For where there was blood and bodies, there is now verdant green and she recognizes those nameless white flowers as far as she can see. She swears she can smell the sweet scent of those white blooms and feels a sense of peace come over her. She finds herself moving to the edge of the field, as she sees a group approaching.

When they are close enough, she recognizes her soulmate, Iriisii, surrounded by a contingent of six guards, none of whom she recognizes. As they reach the edge, four of the guards break off and take up posts on either side of the stone-paved road leading to a building off in the distance.

Iriisii is still accompanied by two guards, as they continue on down the road. Occaisionally, Iriisii bends down and collects a flower, slowly weaving them into a wreath as they approach the building that Rigmor now sees as some kind of open-air temple. As they reach the steps leading up, the remaining guards post themselves to either side of the steps as Iriisii greets a robed man Rigmor assumes is a priest of this temple.

Iriisii bows and says, "Abbot, thank you for meeting me here."

Temple Abbot: "Your Majesty, the honor and pleasure are mine, after all, if it were not for your efforts and gold, this temple would not be here."

Iriisii: "Please, it was no effort at all and I had more gold than I knew what to do with. I just wanted a place set aside to honor the dragons and soldiers that gave their lives fighting in that battle. It looks very peaceful and beautiful, with plenty of space, and open to Kyne's winds. The scent of the flowers is sweet and light. Yes, I do believe I made the right decision to have it built here."

Temple Abbot: "I agree, but you did not come to talk to me. Please follow me and I will take you to him."

Rigmor wonders who did Iriisii come here to see, and more importantly, why? Soon it becomes apparent when they stop at a dias with a skeleton of a dragon mounted atop. She reads the name on the plaque, Durnehviir. Now it all becomes clear for her as she watches Iriisii lay the wreath of nameless white flowers at the feet of the dragon's bones. Tears running down Rigmor's face mirroring Iriisii's tears as she mourns the death of her draconic friend and ally. Slowly she listens as Iriisii talks to Durhneviir about her life since the battle, telling him stories about the children and Rigmor.

The hours pass and she rises to leave. She stops and says to her friend, "I miss you and pray Kyne has taken you into her garden."

She lays her head against his gleaming skull and a single tear falls to the bone but does not run down. Iriisii turns and walks a few steps away, then hears a soft 'clink'. She turns back and sees a twinkle of sunlight reflecting from something on the stone floor. She picks it up and sees that it looks like a crystal tear. She gazes back at Durnehviir and says, "Thank you, my friend. I know just what to do with this gift."

She returns to the front of the temple and collects the two guards there. Together they walk back to the edge where the remaining guards await, then on to where they left their horses. It seems that for whatever reason, horses will only come so close, and no closer, to the field.

Rigmor travels with them as they approach the Imperial City. One of the guards asks if Iriisii wishes to go back to the palace, but she says there is a stop to make first. They stop at a jeweler's shop in the merchant's quarter, then enter. The Argonian jeweler greets Iriisii and asks, "Your Majesty, is there anything I can do for you?"

Iriisii: "Please take a look at this and tell me if you would make an amulet to house it."

Madesi: "Of course...my lady...where did you get this?"

Iriisii: "At the Temple of Kyne, in the old battlefield, why?"

Madesi: "Majesty, this is known as a 'Tear of the Dragon' and is one of the very rarest of jewels known to exist. This one is so clear! No value can be put upon one like this!"

Iriisii: "Please, I would like it placed in an appropriate amulet setting. Spare no expense, for I trust only you to do this the justice it deserves."

Madesi: "Of course, your Majesty, I will start right away. Please know that when I have some drawings for the setting, I will show them to you for your approval."

Iriisii: "Just listen to the song of the tear, it will tell you what you need to know and do."

Madesi: "Your Majesty is wise in the lore of these jewels. It will be done as you say! When it is done I will bring it to you."

Iriisii: "Thank you, Madesi, I could trust no one else with this, for it will go to someone very, very special!"

A few weeks later, Madesi finished the amulet and presented it to Iriisii.

Iriisii: "I must say, the workmanship of this amulet is beyond exquisite. I do not know if there is another jeweler that could craft something that could even come close to this!"

Iriisii holds it by the chain letting it slowly spin in the sunlight. As the light strikes it at just the right angle, the detailed dragon head seems to come alive and roar. Madesi quietly bows his thanks to the praise being heaped upon him.

Iriisii: "Lord Blackwell, would you be so kind as to give us your opinion?"

Lord Blackwell: "I am not a qualified judge of this degree of craftsmanship, but I can honestly say that I have never in my life seen a piece that even comes close to this. I believe I can truly say this is worth a king's ransom, literally."

Iriisii: "Please tell me what your work in this piece is worth, Madesi, and be generous to yourself."

Madesi: "If it pleases your Majesty, I will not take a single septim for my work. I learned enough in the crafting of this piece to advance my station in the jeweler's guild to an almost unheard-of level. The guildmaster came by when word reached him of your commissioning the piece with me.

After he saw it finished, he signed my master jeweler's papers on the spot and said that this would secure my reputation and the reputation of the guild for a very long time. When word of this leaks and I think it may already have since I have seen more noble customers coming into my shop in the past week than I previously had all year! I am now doing more business than I have in my entire career. So please accept this with no payment required for my work. I will more than makeup for it in the increased business.

Iriisii: "As you wish, Master Madesi, however, there is one thing I can do for you that will help even more in your business."

Iriisii speaks a few words to the court scribe, who goes through the documents he is holding and hands one to Iriisii. She reads the document silently and hands it to Lord Blackwell, who also reads it and gives Iriisii his agreement.

Iriisii: "To all and sundry who hears my voice, let it now and forever more be known, that I, Iriisii Dovahkiin, Empress of Cyrodiil and the Empire, do hereby declare that Master Jeweler Madesi, formerly of the town of Riften in Skyrim, is hereby granted permanent citizenship in our Empire, and furthermore I do also declare that Master Jeweler Madesi be granted the title of Imperial Jeweler of the Empire of Cyrodiil, effective immediately. As I will it, let it be so!"

Iriisii then signs the document and passes it to Lord Blackwell for his signature. Once that is done, Lord Blackwell replies that he will see it entered into the Empire's records and that a copy will be made to be officially presented to the newly minted Imperial Jeweler. Upon the realization of just what the Empress has done for him, strikes him, Madesi drops to one knee and bows low to the Empress.

Iriisii: "Please rise Imperial Master Jeweler Madesi, and may I congratulate you on a task well done and most deserving of due recognition!", Iriisii quietly adds, "I will also see to clearing up that issue that caused you to have to leave Riften. I know for a fact that you are innocent and were set up to take the blame for that incident. Maven Blackbriar will rescind her decision and restore your reputation in Riften if she wants to remain sitting in the Jarl's seat.

This I promise you, although once this is clear, I would appreciate your taking permanent residence here in the Imperial City. I am sure the female population here will make your business very successful if you do."

Madesi: "I really have no words to properly thank you, your Majesty."

Iriisii: "Words are really not necessary, this supreme work of art is thanks enough. Lord Blackwell, I have some information that has just recently come to my notice that I think you will want to review. It has to do with the identity of the perpetrators of the assassination of Titus Meade II."

Lord Blackwell: "You positively know who was responsible?"

Iriisii: "Not beyond doubt, but I do have a lead on an object that will give us that information,  once I pry it from the fingers that currently hold it."

Lord Blackwell: "Then please tell me what you know, it may be that I can help with that task."

Iriisii: "Some time ago, I was working with the last few members of the 'Blades' seeking information on the return of the dragons and whether the Thalmor had their fingers in it. It was set up for me to 'crash' a party at the Thalmor Embassy near Solitude to see what I could find out."

Lord Blackwell: "I remember hearing about that party. You will have to give me the whole story when you have a chance. I think it would make for an awesome tale!"

Iriisii: "I will do that, and probably bring Rigmor as well. She would enjoy hearing it too. But to the matter at hand, I ended up saving the life of one of Riften's Thieves Guild members, who was being questioned concerning the identity and whereabouts of someone who I too was looking for.

Anyway, the guild member recently contacted me with information about the assassination. He said that a member of the Dark Brotherhood came to the Ragged Flagon about two weeks before Titus Meade II's disappearance and gave an object to Delvin Mallory to authenticate and ask if Delvin would purchase it.

My source said that Mallory was very excited to see the piece and gave a 'letter of credit' for a 'to be determined favor or task'. There was no specific name mentioned as to the former owner of the object, save that it was an 'Elder Council Amulet' and that it had been given to the Dark Brotherhood for expenses to be incurred in the performance of a contract.

I intend to pressure Delvin Mallory into handing over the amulet so that we can then definitively determine who ordered the assassination contract and go from there to see who else may be implicated."

Lord Blackwell: "Are you sure you have never done this kind of work before? You have been able to get further in just a short while than I have in six years!"

Iriisii: "Well, it helps to be known as the "Champion of Boethiah", gets the attention of a certain segment of a town's population that would rather not draw her attention to themselves."

Lord Blackwell: "I think I can well imagine."

                                                *

Iriisii: "Lord Blackwell, I think you may want to look at this."

Handing over the Elder Council Amulet to him.

Lord Blackwell: "Armand Motierre, that slimy son of a whore is going to regret his action."

Iriisii: "I am afraid Titus Meade II reached his hand from beyond the grave and took care of him first."

     Lord Blackwell: "How?"

Iriisii: "My source said that before the assassin killed the Emperor, Titus Meade II asked a dying man's favor of the assassin. He felt the man who set the contract in motion should not be able to profit from his action and so he asked that when the assassin collected his pay, he would then 'take care of the man who entered the contract'. The assassin consented to the Emperor's request and killed Armand after getting the location of the payment."

Lord Blackwell: "Well, that is it then. There is no way to find out if there were any others involved."

Iriisii: "There is still the matter of who paid the Morag Tong for the 'Grey Writ' against Kintyra. I will not rest until I track that person or persons down and see justice done. To target a child is the most evil and reprehensible act. I don't care about whatever code the Tong operates under, they will tell me who paid or I will make certain that the next thing they see is their grave!"

Rigmor standing close, thought to herself, 'Thank you, my love, for finding out what happened to our past Emperor. Now at least I know what happened and I know you will find out who tried to kill me and Kintyra. All I ask is that I will be there when you find them, to know that justice will be done.'

The dream fades and Rigmor senses that she is waking. She realizes she is laying across Iriissii and as she moves to ease herself into a more comfortable position, she feels Iriisii's arms wrap themselves around her and pull her against her love like a spoon. Iriisii murmurs sleepily, "Now I can sleep the night away since you are next to me." Rigmor feels Iriisii's head nuzzle into her and feels tender lips place a light kiss on her neck.

     Iriisii: "Unless of course..."

. Rigmor turns, placing her finger across Iriisii's lips telling her to stop talking, taking her finger from her lover's lips and placing her own lips where they were. Then whispers to her, "I love you more now than I ever have before and will love you still more each day of our lives that we spend with each other. Now kiss me and love me like you did on the night we wed, and know my love for you is and will always be eternal."

                                              *

Iriisii: "Rigmor, my love. Wake up! If we are going to get out before Blackwell stops us we have to go now!"

Rigmor: "Please just a few minutes more sleep."

Iriisii: "No, we have to go now. I have all our things already packed and loaded on board our ship. We have to go now to make the high tide going out when we get to the sea. Besides, I have a surprise for you later, once we get out onto the open water."

Rigmor cracks open an eye and looks at her mate, "What kind of surprise?"

Iriisii: "One that I am sure you are going to enjoy very much! So get your sleepy self up, dressed, and let us go!"

Rigmor crawls out of bed, mainly due to the anticipation of the surprise Iriisii says she had for Rigmor later. As she starts moving, it gets easier to get ready for their trip. Rigmor remembers how she had to almost blackmail Iriisii into letting her go along, against Iriisii's and Blackwell's wishes. She then thinks that she had better get things moving if for no other reason than Iriisii took the time to get her up to go with her instead of just letting her sleep while she snuck out of the Imperial City. I did want to go and find out just who that 'dragon amulet' is for, and this way, Blackwell won't know exactly where we are going since we are going around by ship and there are several places we could be heading for.

The stealthy run out to the waiting ship went without incident. Serana was already waiting at the ship along with her significant other, Casius, who was not going to allow us to go by ourselves, besides it was his ship. Several hours later, we had left the lake area, down the river, and out to sea, Rigmor looked expectantly at Iriisii.

Iriisii: "Oh, I did promise you a surprise didn't I?"

Rigmor: "Yes, you did and now you are going to make good on that promise."

Iriisii crooks her finger at Rigmor and says, "Follow me."

She leads Rigmor back to the stateroom that Casius has provided them on his ship and pulls out a shipping trunk.

Rigmor: "Hey, that isn't the one we packed and brought on board."

Iriisii: "No it isn't. It is your surprise."

     Handing Rigmor the key.

Serana: "This I just have to see, and no, Rigmor, I have no idea what is in it. It was delivered just as it is."

Rigmor opens the trunk with the key and immediately gasps in wonder, then starts pulling out a completely new wardrobe of clothes for her to wear. There seemed to be everything from fancy dresses suitable for court functions to more casual clothes for more leisurely activities, then she pulled out a lingerie set that had Serana whistling in appreciation. Rigmor turned a lovely shade of red and sent a scathing look at Iriisii. Who just smiled and kept quiet. Rigmor pulled out several pairs of shoes, jewelry, and accessories as well.

Rigmor: "Just where did you get all of this and how much did you spend?"

Iriisii: "The gold is no issue, you know I have more stashed here and there than I could spend in several lifetimes. As to where I bought it from, well, you have always remarked on where I got the clothes I wear when I am not in armor. So I made a trip into Skyrim to an 'out of the way' shop called 'Divine Elegance' and placed an order for this and had them deliver it.

Serana: "By the Gods, you went to Divine Elegance and didn't tell me or take me with you! Just what kind of friend are you to do something like that?"

Iriisii: "Sorry, but you were extremely busy planning your wedding weren't you? Besides, where do you think your wedding dress came from."

Serana: "You bought my wedding dress from there? I'm sorry I said anything, you are the best friend I have ever had."

Rigmor: "Will someone tell me just what gives with this 'Divine Elegance' shop?"

Serana: "Rigmor, Divine Elegance is just the most exclusive clothier shop in all of Tamriel. Everything there is handmade from the finest fabrics, and tailored to fit to make you look absolutely delectable. Here let me see."

Serana pulls out a smooth full-length gown and holds it up to Rigmor's body.

Serana: "Yes, wear this to a court function and you will turn every male's eyes straight to you and at least half the female's eyes as well. With the right color shoes and those butterfly earrings. The courtiers won't know what hit them when you walk into the room."

Rigmor: "You're serious, aren't you? You really mean it?"

Rigmor moves over to the bed and quickly changes clothes.

Iriisii: "Uh oh, you are definitely not going up and out on deck wearing that!"

     Rigmor: "And just why not!"

Iriisii: "Because we would be lucky if the ship didn't pile up on a reef somewhere because the helmsman and the crew on board couldn't tear their eyes off of you and steer the ship, that's why! Hell, I am having trouble keeping my eyes off of you and I have seen all of you.

Serana, why don't you wait outside for a while, I think Rigmor needs some help changing out of that gown!"

Rigmor: "Serana! you stay right where you are!"

Rigmor puts her fingertip straight against Iriisii's chest and says in as sultry a voice as she can manage without busting out laughing.

Rigmor: "We will continue this later tonight if you want to, that is. But right now, I need to change into something less dangerous to my virtue and to this ship, are you sure you can help me without getting both of us into trouble?"

Iriisii: "I will make the supreme effort and sacrifice to do as you ask."

Rigmor: "Keep it up and I just might try on the lingerie set and model it for you later."

Iriisii: "Serana, if you keep this between us, I will see that you get a similar set in whatever color you want, so you can wear it for Casius!"

     Serana: "Deal!"

Iriisii whispers in Rigmors ear, "If you play your cards right, the pilot knows where a small uninhabited, tropical island is that is not very far off of our path. If I grace his palm with a few septims, he will pass by close enough for us to take a jollyboat over to it and spend some time alone, just you and me."

Rigmor: "You mean it, just you and me?"

     Iriisii: "Just you and me!"

Rigmor: "I would love to spend some time alone with you, walking on the sand of a tropical island. Who knows just what we may get up to."

                                                                           *

We have been at sea for several days, getting somewhat close to Pyandonea, although that stop is for later. Our first main stop is farther north around the west side of Skyrim and laying somewhere in the Sea of Ghosts, then we travel by land to our destination, the mountains just beyond Skuldafn Temple actually. I do hope Iriisii has some way to get us up to this place. I guess we will just have to find out when we get there.

Oh my, Iriisii bribed the ship's pilot to stop at a remote island that he knows about. He is using the reason of replenishing our fresh water as the reason to stop, meanwhile, Iriisii and I are going to stay on the island overnight to have some time to ourselves.

Rigmor: "I just cannot believe that you managed to get us onto the island all alone, just the two of us."

Iriisii: "This is something I have been wanting to do with you for quite some time. Just to relax and enjoy being with you, no worries, no papers needing to be signed, no diplomats needing shepherding, just you, me, the warm water, the cool ocean breeze, walking on the beach, sand between your toes. Here, look at the size of this seashell, have you ever seen one this big before?"

Rigmor: "Only your heart, my love, is bigger than this seashell. I really don't know of anything bigger than your heart. Somehow, you have managed to fit the entire Empire in there. But, you know something?"

     Iriisii: "What, my love."

Rigmor: "As much as you put into your heart, there is always plenty of room for me and our children, and truthfully, I would not have it any other way."

Iriisii: "You and our children will always have all of the room in there that you and they want. That I will not have any other way. Look! there is a lagoon over there, want to take a swim while the day is still warm?"

Rigmor: "Why just in the lagoon, we have the whole ocean!"

Iriisii: "Yes, you do, along with sharks and other possibly dangerous creatures that live in the open water, a lagoon is protected, and I want you safe when you are swimming, the water will be warmer from the sun than the open ocean. Come on, race you!"

Later, sitting up against a palm tree, watching the sun setting below the horizon, and just a few stars showing themselves against the deepening sky.

Iriisii: "Being here with you, just us, I want to tell you how much I love you, how filled I am with happiness right now, and how much I will cherish this time."

Rigmor: "Oh, my happy Dragonborn, I do so love you too. You have proven yourself to me and laid all of my doubts to rest long ago. You have been there, whenever I needed you. I know you have been very busy at times, but you always have made time for me and the children. You have always kept us safe from whatever threat that came at us. I could not have done near as much as I have without you there to help me."

Iriisii: "I will bet you did not know that some years ago, after I came to Bruma but before we were married, I dreamed about the two of us, alone on an island like this one. And it inspired me so much that I wrote a poem about it. It is not as good as the ones you write, but..."

Rigmor: "Hush now, if you wrote a poem about us on an island, recite it for me, while we are here and I know it will be perfect!"

     Iriisii: "Ok, here goes:

Dreaming of Rigmor by the Sea

I see myself walking with my lovely Queen,

bare feet on the cool sand, waves lapping

as we stroll, holding hands, listening

quietly to the sounds of the cool night.

Long have we desired to be alone, just us

and the night sky abounding with stars,

the starlight weaving its way down from afar

to gently caress the locks of my love's hair.

I see the sea's mist glistening on her skin,

as the waves gently break on the silvery shore

Her quiet voice reaches through my ears

to touch my racing heart and calm my soul.

As we reach our camp, the fire is inviting,

before we went to walk the sandy beach

we leaned against each other and a tree

slowly watching the sun set below the horizon.

We sit before the fire, as its light dances

across our skin, its heat, warm as our love.

The day has been long, and sleep calls to us,

she asks me to hold her close as we lay down.

Just as sleep lays claim to our thoughts

We hear a whisper of a thought brush our minds

The stars are saying, sleep well and deeply

We will watch over and protect you now.

We hear the stars say to the sea breeze

Go and tell the mage on the ship in the bay,

The Queen and her Dragonborn are asleep,

They are safe, for we have laid over them

A blanket of starlight, we weaved for them.

They will be ready to journey once more,

when the sun's warm light wakes them,

come their time in the morning light.

Dragonborn and Rigmor, worry not anymore

For us, the stars will remember this night,

When you are apart and yearn for the other,

Look to us and we will remember for you.

We will speak unto your hearts, unto your souls,

the sweet memories of this night you spent,

only the two of you, and we the stars watching

as you held each other close and dreamed.

Rigmor: "That is so beautiful, I know it came straight from your heart to mine. I will treasure it, forever, my love. Now come, let us go make a fire. You can recite it again for me, while we watch the firelight dance and hear the crackle of the wood burning. Maybe if we listen real close, we can hear the stars whispering to us as we fall asleep in each other's arms."

                                                                           *

Iriisii is swollen with two unborn babies moving and jostling for position. Rose is gently examining Iriisii trying to get an idea of when to expect them to come, when Lord Blackwell knocks at the door. Rose looks that way as Lord Blackwell asks to enter. Rose then looks to Iriisii who nods her head. Rose then pulls the bed covers up over her waist and goes to the door to let the Lord Chancellor in.

Blackwell: "Any idea of their arrival?"

Rose: "Anytime, Lord Blackwell, they are moving into position for birthing now. If I may, what is so important that she must be interrupted at this critical time?"

Blackwell: "If it were anything less, I would not be here."

Iriisii: "The Thalmor, is it not. The diplomatic delegation has finally put in an appearance. If I do not miss my guess, they are scrambling because they cannot find this 'prophet' of mine or the Sea Elves, who have been spreading that 'story' around."

Blackwell: "Indeed, Your Majesty is right on target. They are insisting on meeting with you to have you denounce him."

Rose: "Well they can just cool their heels until I say she can meet with them! She is in no condition to be meeting with those..."

Iriisii: "Rose, please. I know why you feel the way you do toward them. I share your feelings completely as you well know. But some things must be put aside for the good of the Empire. I will have to meet with them sooner rather than later. We cannot give the Thalmor time to find out that we have the 'Prophet' hidden here in the Imperial Palace, at least until we are ready to produce him at a time of our advantage. Which I think has arrived by the look on the Lord Chancellor's face."

Blackwell: "Indeed it has Your Majesty, we have received copies of the last historical documents proving the existence of the 'Blade Dancers' here on Nirn. That coupled with the testimony of the Sea Elves attesting to the 'Prophet's' words, the testimony of the citizens of Dawnstar, the records of the events at the sacrificial site, and the examination thereof by the Synod, the College of Whispers, the College of Magic at Winterhold. It is all pointing to the veracity of what this 'Prophet' is saying. Even the Priests of the Temples of the Nine are weighing in with what the 'Nine' themselves are saying about it, and none of it is in the least agreeing with what the Thalmor are saying."

Rose: "Then why in the Gods' names does she have to meet them face to face if we have all of this evidence?"

Rigmor: "Because they have to have their faces rubbed into it or it will have no meaning to them. Probably will not even then, but the rest of the countries, nations, and provinces of Nirn will see, read it, and know it is the truth. And that the Thalmor's denial of it will be worthless in the eyes of the people of Nirn. She must be seen as the one delivering the evidence against them. I take it you plan on bringing the 'Prophet' and the Sea Elves to face the Thalmor when you show the evidence in their faces?"

Iriisii: "Yes, they must not have a moment's chance to plan a response when we pull the rug from under their feet and reveal the trapdoor under them."

Rose: "But what about the babies! You know the Thalmor, you know what they are capable of!"

Iriisii: "Yes, Rose, I do, that is why only the best of our guard will be on hand. Every spyhole will have a watcher and an archer ready to defend us. Kintyra and her nannies are going to be moved somewhere else in the palace and the upper deck will have specially trained Legion troops with grappling ropes ready to drop down into the throne room at the first sign of trouble. I would like nothing better than for them to step out of line and give me an excuse to find them all new homes in our dungeons."

Lilith: "Hear, hear, now you are speaking my language, Your Majesty! The throne room and upper deck are ready whenever you are."

Rose turns away and moves toward a window overlooking the Palace Grounds.

Iriisii moves the bedcovers and gently gets out of bed, walking to where Rose stands.

As she puts an arm over her shoulder, "I know how you feel about this, but the business of the people of this Empire calls for me to attend to it, and as their Empress and servant, I must see to it."

Rose: "But you can let the High Queen sit in your place! Surely that would suffice with you so close to giving birth to twins!"

Iriisii: "Better I just give the order to execute the Thalmor and start another war on top of the one we know is coming, because that is exactly what would happen."

Rose: "You do not know that for sure?!"

Rigmor in a sympathetic voice: "Yes, she is sure. She knows exactly how I would react to them. She is the only one who can keep me calm enough to tolerate their presence without placing all of their heads on the battlement spikes."

Rose: "I am sorry, you are right of course."

Iriisii: "Rose, remember, I am Dragonborn, I have the soul of an Ancient Elder of the dragons within me. My children are also Dragonborn and something I have deliberately not said is this, they are awake and aware. the babies are like I was then, Dragonchild as well as Dragonborn. My Dragonsoul assures me that he will look after them and see to protecting them within me. They will come to no harm whatsoever and I know he, like I do, keeps his promises."

Rose: "I cannot say I completely understand the relationship you share with your Dragonsoul, but if you say 'he' will keep them safe, I believe you. But I want to be next to you while you are in this meeting. Such that all will see that you care not only for the people but for your own unborn as well."

Iriisii: "I can wholeheartedly agree to that, and I am sure everyone else will as well."

Rose: "Well then let us get this 'meeting' over with. After this is over with, the Throne Room will need a thorough cleaning to remove the Thalmor stench once they are gone."

Rigmor: "You will not get any argument from me on that!"

Iriisii: "Lord Blackwell, I will want the Thalmor delegation to not know we have the 'Prophet' and his aides until we are ready to spring them. I want every diplomat, noble, and spectator to see the shock on their faces when we do."

Blackwell: "When do you think it best to present our evidence?"

Iriisii: "While they are still reeling from shock, of course. I do not want them to have a single moment to regain their composure. Do we have agents spread out among the guests, in case of unexpected visitors?"

Blackwell: "Of course, Your Majesty. They have been meticulously placed to have clear and unobstructed fields of fire to anywhere inside the throne room, and your guards have been notified that if anything happens they are to carry you, the High Queen, and the Imperial Physician to safety. If it is needed they will shield you with their own bodies."

Iriisii: "Let us hope it does not come to that. Alright, Lord Blackwell go ahead and see to anything that needs further attention while we make our way to the throne room. Lilith, see that the Sirens are positioned around the thrones before we make our appearance. I will want us to be in place before the Thalmor are escorted before us. By the way, is Count Camaeus with them?"

Blackwell: "No, he is not, and that worries me."

Iriisii: "He did not come with them from Alinor or he did not show up with them to the palace?"

Blackwell: "We are not certain of the former, definitely not the latter."

Iriisii: "Post a few extra guards around Kintyra, and wherever else you think it is needed. Better to not need them than not have them."

Blackwell: "I agree with you, Your Majesty. I will see to it at once."

Iriisii: "Now let us take our sweet time getting to the throne room, since the Thalmor are going to inconvenience us in this way, they can cool their heels until we are ready for them."

Rigmor: "I like it that you are willing to play politics like this, I sure do not have the patience for it."

Iriisii: "Truth be told I do not either, but better me than you. I can at least look attentive while I am doing something else with my mind. But I also will not be caught unaware if anything goes on while I am occupied. But I think this situation will call for my full attention to be brought to bear."

They do indeed 'take their sweet time' making their way to the throne room. Stopping to speak to the staff they meet on the way, none of whom are pleased at all with the Thalmor insisting on an audience with the Empress so close to delivering twins. They give her their best well wishes, promise to look out for anything out of the ordinary, and report it to the guards if they see anything.

Rose: "I knew you were well-liked when I came here to be your physician, but I never imagined you held the loyalty of just about everybody not only in the palace, but the Imperial City, and most of the rest of Tamriel."

Rigmor: "It was not easy for her at all, she spent nearly every minute after our wedding until Kintyra's birth, on the road, visiting the nobles, talking to the people, holding meetings with the diplomats. I saw more of her in the time leading up to all of this than I have since then. I know why she has done this, and I agree it had to be done, but I have been lonely nevertheless. But I also know I could not have done this, I could not have pulled this Empire back from the brink like she has done, and I thank the 'Nine' every day for her being here."

Rose: "You do not have to convince me, I have seen the differences between what it was like under Sethius and what it is like now. He was not all bad, but he could not compare to what the Empress has done. Someday I hope the Thalmor get what is coming to them for all they have done and continue to do standing in your way like they are."

Iriisii: "Do not worry about that account, Rose. Akatosh is not going to let them continue with their antics while the fate of Nirn is decided by our actions. He has a plan for all of us, and it will take all of us to bring it about. Anyone who stands in the way of that plan is going to wish they had not when his 'Right Hand of Justice' smacks them upside their heads. But for them, it will be too late, there will be no forgiveness, no redemption, no survival."

Rose: "The 'Nine' really do talk to you, don't they?"

Iriisii: "Yes they do. They only tell me what I need to know, and I am all right with that. I have other sources as well, but because of that, the 'Nine' do sometimes tell me more than they tell their priests and priestesses. I know it can be hard to bear what happens out there, but they do care, they do have a plan, and it is worth every sacrifice we can make to bring that plan to fruition."

Rose: "You have seen it then, they have shown you what it is you are fighting for so hard?"

Iriisii: "Yes, they have, and it is worth all the pain and suffering we have endured for the last thousand years of our history. You will see it Rose, you will see what I am talking about when it begins."

Rose: "Can you tell me when it begins?"

Iriisii smiles at Rose, "When I step down as Empress and give the throne to Kintyra. That is when it officially begins when the paths to that future are set in stone. It will mark the beginning of a new Era, I think afterward, I will go to my 'Clockwork Castle' in the Jerals for a while to relax and unwind in the peace and quiet. Then I think Rigmor and I will go on an extended stay at my home in the Shire. Doing just whatever comes into our mind to do, visit with the neighbors over tea and apple pie, listen to the children get into trouble as children will do. Watch the sun set over the low hills as we sit on the veranda, and stay up until near dawn with all the stars in the sky as our guests."

Rigmor: "Can we sneak off and start early, please, pretty please? We can even take Rose with us, she would enjoy it so much, I know she would."

Iriisii: "You know that if I could I would, in a heartbeat, I would."

Rigmor: "Yeh, I do know, but I will never stop wishing that you could."

Iriisii: "Come on, let us get to our places and let this drama pass us by."

As they come down the steps behind the thrones, they look out at the spectators lining up to find seats for the spectacle. Blackwell made certain that word got out of what was going to happen so there would be plenty of high-level witnesses to the embarrassment of the Thalmor delegation. They took their seats, with Rose standing by Iriisii, making sure everything was well with her.

Rigmor looked around spotting quite many guards disguised as ordinary people in the crowd. Then she noticed the Sirens in full armor stationed at the access points and where they could keep a good view of everyone. Even Tara and Commander Marius were brought in closer to the thrones, security had never been this tight before as she fought not to look up at the overhead balcony and at the soldiers positioned there, ready to drop down from ropes if they were needed.

Iriisii was satisfied with the arrangements made so she looked to Blackwell standing by the doors and nodded her head. Blackwell stepped out into the hallway to retrieve the Thalmor Delegation and escort them in. As the doors reopened and the delegation followed Lord Blackwell to the area in front of the thrones. A couple of the delegates seemed to take notice of the surroundings and suspected something was up.

The lead delegate takes a step forward to speak about their position, why they feel the prophet's story is false, and their desire to ask that Iriisii denounce him and repudiate all that he has said.

Iriisii: "Do you have more than your words to substantiate your stand and to base your request upon?"

Delegate Thruinil: "We need nothing more, our word is enough in the absence of any corroboration of this self-appointed priest."

Iriisii: "I see, Lord Blackwell, would you see that yonder table brought over here where this delegation may peruse its contents?"

     Blackwell: "At once, Empress."

He has four of the palace staff, each at one corner of the table, covered by a silk cloth, picks the table up, moves it in front of the Thalmor, and set it down carefully. They then withdraw to the outer edges of the throng leaning forward in their seats to get a better view of the contents.

Iriisii: "If you would be so kind, Lord Blackwell."

Blackwell: "Of course, Your Divine Majesty."

Lord Blackwell carefully removes the covering, on the table is a long object covered by another silk covering, and also are stacks of books, scrolls, letters, and testimonials, each accompanied by a letter of verification by the Seers of Corinthe as to the trustworthiness of the contents.

Iriisii: "As you can see we have not been lax in our efforts to find all the historical evidence that was scattered about Nirn. Everything on that table has been authenticated by the Seers of Corinthe, the Synod, The College of Whispers, and the College of Magic in Winterhold of Skyrim. Further, I have some guests I am sure you would be dying to meet. Lord Blackwell if you would present our guests?"

Lord Blackwell: "I would be delighted, My Empress."

And he walks to the doors, opens them, and bids three cloaked figures to follow him. He leads them to the table across from the Thalmor. As they throw their hoods back, the middle one is the 'Prophet' flanked on each side by a Maormer of Pyandonea, both of them ranking members of King Orgnum's Court.

Iriisii: "I believe you have been looking for my guests, but not quite for the same purpose I have."

Delegate Thruinil: "And what may I ask was your purpose in 'hiding' them?"

Iriisii: "I thought I was protecting them from bandits, corsairs, and other 'ne'er do wells'."

Her comment draws a great deal of chuckles and muffled laughter from the crowd.

Iriisii: "Now as to your claims that the story told by 'my Prophet' as he calls himself, about what happened on that island. My love, would you please go down and unwrap what is under that silk cloth?"

     Rigmor: "Me?"

Iriisii: "Yes, you will see why when you uncover it."

Rigmor: "Ok, I trust you know what you are doing."

Rigmor stands and walks down to the table. Tara and Commander Marius fall in to either side of her. Rigmor reaches out her hand and before she can touch it, she knows what is under the cloth. She looks up at Iriisii with surprise on her face.

     Rigmor: "How did you?"

Iriisii simply motions for her to unveil what is under the cloth.

Rigmor whisks the cloth away, takes the sword in her hands, and raises it to point first into the air. As it seems to gather in the light around it into a singular glow, Iriisii's voice rings out.

Iriisii: "This is 'Azura's Bane', the sword I wielded as her Champion in the Oblivion Realm of Malacath, he who once was known as Trinimac before Boethiah consumed him and defecated his remains which became Malacath. I used Azura's Bane at her command to strike the Sigil Stone at the top of Malacath's tower, close the gate he had opened, and through which he intended to return to Nirn as Trinimac after Rigmor was to be sacrificed to bring about his restoration. Upon his return, all inhabitants not of Altmer blood were to be killed, thus cleansing Tamriel for his chosen people. This was in part the basis for the Prophet's story. the later part anyway. To prove the first part, I would like to introduce you to another guest of mine."

And she asks another to come from behind the curtain leading to the stairs. Those few who know her can see how Iriisii and the mystery guest walk alike, and have seen them train together, swords flying like they had a mind of their own. This figure hidden within her robes sheds them when she comes up even with Iriisii, to show her armor to be like nothing almost any on Tamriel has seen. And her blade would be worthy even of a Swordsinger's Soulblade.

Iriisii: "This is my Grandmother, who adopted me soon after I escaped the Sinister Seven. This is she who stood against the Thalmor on those Pyandonean docks all those years ago. This is Sharra, former Matriarch of the Temple of the Ancient Order of the Blade Dancers. And the child she later bore would become my mother, who gave up her life as I was being born."

The Prophet takes one good look at Sharra, and says, "Yes, this is indeed she, who I saw on those docks that day. She who sent the Thalmor running with their tail between their legs."

Sharra hears his words and turns to look at him, then smiles as she recognizes him.

Sharra: "I greet thee Prophet of my Granddaughter, I see the 'Hands of the Gods' even now holding your shoulders, guiding you on the path you chose that day and have never faltered from since. You have my sincere thanks for accepting that task and never wavering from it. Know there are even greater things in store for you in reward for your faith and belief."

She steps down to stand next to him, takes her sword in hand, and with a divine flourish extends it to him.

Sharra: "Here, take this, the blade I summoned from the depths of my soul that day. The first of many mighty gifts that will come your way on this path that you have chosen. Her name is 'Seoyl Cayosin', use her as my Granddaughter uses hers, to defend those who cannot defend themselves, to stand for the Great Balance in all things, and to help the helpless without regard for yourself. Do this and the Gods will bless you as no man before has been blessed."

His hands trembling, he takes the blade in those hands. The blade then uses its soul to reforge his, making him Iriisii's first 'Warrior Prophet'. One destined to walk before her greatest steps, preparing the way for her as she walks the many roads of her destiny.

Warrior Prophet: "I am indeed blessed above all men. I see the many roads that she will tread. And I will be the one to open those roads for her feet to tread upon."

He turns to look at Iriisii.

Warrior Prophet: "I am now your' Warrior Prophet', by what name will I be known as I bear the word of your deeds and your approach to those who know you not?"

Iriisii: "I name you, Sil Tuz Qolaas, let our enemies quake in fear as you pass, let our friends rejoice as you help those in need, and may even the Gods themselves listen when you speak in my name. Let all know wherever he goes, he speaks with my voice, his words are my words. For he is now the sword in my hand as he cuts my enemies, the one who gives voice to my prayers in the Temples of the Gods, the one who will see the path my feet will tread and he will cleanse my way. As the Dragons know me so shall they know you, and as they accept me so they will accept you. As I live, so shall you, KOS NII MAHFAERAAK!"

All within the throne room feel the power that grows as she speaks to the newly named Sil Tuz Qolaas. And when she reaches the final pronouncement...blessing...even she is not sure what it is, just that it is right and a true reward for him, for his faith in her service. Her voice in Dovahzul seals the bargain between them and from inside her womb, the Dragonchild twins, share her sentiment and add their voices to hers. Off in the distance, the Dragons speak their acceptance of her words and take note that she has found this man worthy of such a gift. So if she finds him worthy then so will they.

A crashing is heard and the sounds of crossing blades are heard from the upper level.

Sergeant of the Guard: "Stop them, they are going for the ropes!"

Guard: "There are too many for us!"

Iriisii: "Get the guests to the walls, clear the center for repelling the invaders!"

As the ropes drop and dark-clad figures slide down, the palace guards prepare to engage, the guards and agents scattered among the guests start herding them away from the center and stand on the edges to defend them.

Lord Blackwell shouts at the top of his voice, "Get the Empress and High Queen to safety, protect them and the babies with your lives!"

Tara and Commander Marius move toward them, but wonder where they can take them. Back up the stairs behind the throne is out because that is right into the thick of the fighting occurring up there in the Royal Quarters. Then Tara remembers something she was shown some time ago when she accepted this post. She has to shout to Commander Marius to be heard over the fighting now beginning on the floor level.

Tara: "Come on! Get them together and follow me!"

Her Commander helps guide Iriisii to where Tara is moving to a point along the outer side of the stairs going to the Royal quarters, where it meets the throneroom wall, she reaches for one of the ornately carved stone decorations, hoping she had the right one that Blackwell had shown to her. She twists it until a 'click' can be felt and a portion of the wall large enough for two abreast opens up.

Quickly she motions for them to enter while she stands with her axes in hand. As Commander Marius passes her she instructs, "Follow the corridor until it ends, there is a lever on the right side of the end, head high. Pull it down then back up again, it will open in the Royal Mausoleum, go up the steps and take them out into the courtyard. You know the way from there."

     Rose: "What about you?"

Tara: "I will follow once you are all inside, now go!"

Sil Tuz Qolaas: "No, go with them. It is my responsibility to protect your escape."

Tara: "Are you certain of this?"

Sil Tuz Qolaas nods his head, even as he turns and thrusts his blazing blade into the chest of one of the attackers trying to stop them. With his sword, he pushes back the mask covering the attacker's features.

Sil Tuz Qolaas: "Cammona Tong, someone paid a high price in gold to hire them for this."

Rigmor: "And they will pay an even higher price when we find out who!"

Sil Tuz Qolaas: "Go, there will be dragons waiting for you in the courtyard to take you to safety. Kintyra is already there waiting for you. My Empress, Mephala has ordered hers to abstain from any action against you, whoever sanctioned this, did so through another."

Iriisii: "Thank you for telling me, one name to cross off the list."

Iriisii turns and moves on into the escape corridor, knowing that with all of the force arrayed in the throneroom, the Cammona Tong is assured to be wiped out, it may take longer with herself and Rigmor not in the middle of the fighting but she knows her people can take care of themselves and trusts them not to let any of the dignitaries get injured. Rose is right by her, making sure she does not stumble or walk into something and injure herself. She appreciates Rose's devotion to her calling, and she decides to let her act as a guide through here, even though she sees better in the dim light than Rose does. It does not take long to reach the end, and Tara catches up to them just as they open the doors and walk out of the escape corridor.

Iriisii sees Durnehviir and Varthlocuur waiting on them, with more than a few Cammona Tong bodies laying about in different stages of death, some burned to a crisp, some chewed in half, still others looking withered and wrinkled. Iriisii figures Durnehviir used his 'Soul Tear' shout on those particular ones. They split up between the two dragons and are in the air before Tara, the last to mount is settled in a place to sit.

Tara: "Where are we going to keep the Empress and the babies safe?"

Durnehviir: "We go to Leyawiin, to the Count and Countess Varon. There is no safer place on Nirn that she could be. They will see that she is well-guarded whenever she is in residence. Illyria and Byrsael are already waiting there for us."

As they arrive just outside Leyawiin, Casius, and Serana are waiting for them with a Legion Guard detachment made up of Casius's old veterans. Rose and Rigmor help Iriisii down from Durnehviir's back, once she is on the ground Casius comes up followed by Serana.

Casius: "Empress, I am glad to see you safe. I assume you already have plans in the works to track the vermin who planned this?"

Before Iriisii could answer him Serana interrupts.

Serana: "Casius, you idiot! She is ready to give birth at any moment! I think she would rather not do so out in the middle of this field! Come, let us get you inside. No, you do not have to walk, I had this made when it looked like you might come here after just such a calamity as this happening."

She has the guard bring a cushioned chair mounted with sturdy carrying poles on both sides. As Rose and Rigmor help Iriisii into the chair, Rose thanks Serana for her foresight in needing this chair made.

Serana: "Not a problem for certain, Illyria and Byrsael are looking over security, of the suite of rooms you will be staying in, with the guards who I have detailed to watch over you. The entire town is on alert to watch for suspicious activity or people not known to everybody."

Iriisii knowing Casius, thinks she needs to give him a role to play in this.

Iriisii: "Casius, when Lord Blackwell gets the situation in the Imperial City calmed down, please inform him that we will be staying here until after the babies are born and I can travel back. Until then would you act as my liaison with him? I will need the two of you to work together to find out just what happened, how it was done, were there any accomplices within the palace, you know the drill. We need to know everything about the entire incident.

When you are not here just send anything you have to Tara, she will get it to me and reply for me if needed. I trust her implicitly and so I ask that you do the same. Durnehviir, I cannot thank you and Varthlocuur enough for what you did today.".

Durnehviir: "There are no thanks needed Qahnaarin. However the assassins found their way into the throneroom, they did not come through the veranda or anywhere else close by on the outside. There was no trace that we could see or scent there that was not known to us."

Iriisii: "Thank you for that. my friend. Casius, it looks more and more like an inside job, I know there are extensive catacombs underneath the city. They may have found a way through them and so were able to slip inside undetected. If this turns out to be the case, we will need to evaluate what we can do."

Casius: "I will get on it immediately, my Empress!"

Serana whispers to Iriisii, "Thank you for that, it will salve his conscience and keep him out from underfoot for a while. Now let us get you inside and settled in your new quarters."

A few days later, Lord Blackwell shows up to inform Iriisii of the investigation into how the Cammora Tong got into the Palace, as well as what the general consensus of how the Audience with the Thalmor went.

Lord Blackwell: "My Lady, as far as we know they entered in through one of the old sewer outlets that had been retired from use for the past several years. We had it plugged securely yet they managed to create a breach in another place to a different sewer line that was active. From there they made their way through several junctions until they came to the drop from the Kitchens. They tied up the kitchen staff, locked them into a storeroom, and then made their way to the upper area by the drop chute. We are consulting with the stonemasons and the Legion's sappers to find a way to prevent such a thing from ever happening again and still keep the chute, the old tunnel has been completely filled, so we know that way is now closed. Any others that we know of are also being filled.

Now on to the interrupted 'Audience'. Luckily the enhanced security kept any of the spectators from being killed or injured. The Thalmor delegation took advantage and left as quickly as they could get out. The talk around the Imperial City is about how much they now resemble 'Jesters and Court Fools' after you shoved their faces in all that evidence proving your statement against what they were saying. What you did for the 'Prophet' has them all speaking of you that you may be the next 'Divine'."

Iriisii: "Please do what you can to quash that but do not use force or threats, it would only strengthen them. Between you and me, if it should come to pass that I do ascend, I somehow doubt I would be joining the 'Nine' in any way. The more likely occurrence is that I go outside Mundus to another group of gods entirely.

Not that I have anything against the 'Nine', far from it. I just think I would be a better fit where I have fewer constraints. I like being out among the people and I cannot see imposing an exile by way of the Liminal Barrier upon myself. But be that as it may, I have much to do before I even consider anything like that. Ooohh, I think you should send for Rose, the young ones are moving around like they want out."

Lord Blackwell does not even hesitate before running for the door, yelling for the Imperial Physician. Her labor is long but not intensive. Once the babies are out on their own and snuggled up against Iriisii, she allows everyone interested, with Rose in attendance, to a short visit to see the two newborn children. When Rose thinks they have all had enough visitors, she calls a halt and asks that they be left alone to rest and gain strength.

Iriisii: "Thank you, Rose, it was getting tiresome."

Rose: "I know you have to show an interested face to all, that is why I stopped it. You are exhausted from labor, even though it was not a difficult birth, it was a long one. Have you considered any names?"

Iriisii: "Rigmor and I talked about this some years ago when she carried Kintyra. I think I would like to honor her father by calling my son, Ragnar."

     Rose: "And your daughter?"

Iriisii: "It may seem strange, but I had a dream recently. I was walking through the palace halls and I could hear someone call out for a child named Kathea. I looked around but never saw anyone, I could only hear them."

Rose: "So you want to call her Kathea?"

     Iriisii: "Yes, I do."

Rose: "I think it is a fine name for an exceptional little girl. Tired as they are, you should sleep as they are, they will wake hungry soon enough so get what sleep you can."

Iriisii: "I will, thank you so much, Rose."

Rose: "It was my pleasure, you have done so much for me and many others as well. Now sleep, physicians orders."

Iriisii's eyes close as she takes a deep breath and calmly lets it out as she sinks into sleep.
